PflegeZeit is an app that shows the patient as a person and not just the disease the person is suffering from. Above all, this app should be easy to use and show the interests (DO’s and DON’Ts) of the patients.

How did you come up with the idea for PflegeZeit and what do you do exactly?

We came up with this idea for PflegeZeit- den Menschen sehen, during the hackathon “UpdateSocial” which was hosted at the JKU in Linz. There we were able to talk to many experts in this field and also gain valuable insights for our project. Our idea is to develop an AI-based app, which aids caretakers in their work and reduces the risk for burnout symptoms. For this we work together with caretakers and elderly people in order to better understand their needs and wishes.

What is causing you sleepless nights at the moment?

Currently our biggest issues are not enough time and too much work. This can be positive and negative at the same time. Also we keep thinking “What if no one actually needs this idea?”.

How do you balance yourself?

Lisa balances her stress through arts and crafts. Jakob finds comfort in experimenting with different cooking recipes. Alex jumps on his motorcycle in order to clear his head. Additionally, we also play games as a group in order to relax.

What impact does the project have on your environment? What SDGs does your project
cover?

Since we are very passionate about AI and its potential, we would like to show everyone that this technology can help others. Moreover, all of us have grandparents and we worry about their wellbeing, therefore we want to create a solution which ensures that our grandparents get the environment they deserve. Our project Pflegezeit not only impacts the care for elderly people but also aids the caretakers by providing an app that saves them time and reduces stress. Therefore, but not limited to, our main SDG is healthcare and wellbeing.

What does the finished project look like?

As far as we know now, we see the most value in working with caretakers and providing them with an app that alleviates them from additional research tasks that they mostly undertake in their freetime. While this helps them with their work-life balance, it also reduces stress and improves mental wellbeing. This app allows them to recover more easily and therefore keeps them more interested and engaged in their work. As a consequence, this positively affects the mood of the elderly people in the care homes. However, our idea is open for changes and improvements.
